The Latvian transportation and freight forwarding company Spedair, which was acquired by the Gothenburg-headquartered logistics specialist Greencarrier International in September 2008, has been renamed Greencarrier Latvia. The company began trading as Greencarrier Latvia on 9 September 2009.

Spedair was established in 1998 and is based in Riga, Latvia. The company has subsidiaries in Kiev, Ukraine, and Minsk, Belarus, and has a worldwide network of agents. Spedair has enabled Greencarrier International to strengthen its position in Eastern Europe and the Baltic region, providing air, road, ocean and rail freight forwarding, multi-modal transportation, warehousing and storage services, and customs brokerage services.

Renaming the company will take this process an important step forward, explains Niklas Olsson, Managing Director and CEO of Greencarrier International:

“Spedair has enabled us to expand our operations significantly and we feel now is the right time to re-brand the company, so taking the Greencarrier name into new market areas. It will also emphasise the fact that shipments entrusted to our care are under Greencarrier’s control from door to door. We are providing a one-stop shop product with a single contact point for the customer.”

Within Riga International Airport, Greencarrier Latvia has a multifunctional cargo terminal that includes an open bonded warehouse.

Greencarrier launches new logotype to represent our philosophy

Greencarrier is expanding and today, as a part of the next step in our development, we are launching a new logotype which symbolizes our philosophy and business idea. Our web site has also been updated to match our new logotype and graphical profile.

The logotype is based on a rounded design and two wave forms. Together they form a G and a C, and they symbolize the earth, world, air, sea, wings, wheels and waves – as well as our environmental commitment, our knowledge and our total responsibility towards our customers.

As from today our name is spelled Greencarrier, with a capital G and the rest in lower case. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Greencarrier – One contact, the world

Greencarrier offers an alternative for companies that do not fit naturally into the set models of huge, worldwide transport and logistics networks. We also appeal to companies that require specialized competence and those that neither want, nor have time for, 5-6 interfaces. Our offer combines the function of key account managers at big companies that keeps an overview of the entire chain, with the specialist competence of smaller transport firms.

Greencarrier is a privately owned freight forwarding company which was founded in Gothenburg, Sweden 1994. Our first office outside Sweden was opened in Oslo, Norway, in 2001. During the years 2006-2009 Greencarrier has expanded into China, Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, Latvia, Ukraine and Belarus. Today we are 250 people in 9 countries.

GreenCarrier International takes a new step in its development

Niklas Olsson, Managing Director of GreenCarrier Sweden AB, has also been appointed Managing Director and CEO of Greencarrier International with effect from 1 June, 2009.

With the Nordic countries and the Baltic States as home markets, GreenCarrier provides forwarding and logistics services, based on the concept of one contact person for all types of transportation all around the world. GreenCarrier International is a key member of the Björk.Eklund Group.

Mr Olsson has been with the group since 1987 and became Managing Director of GreenCarrier Sweden in 2004.

Announcing the appointment, Björk.Eklund Group partner, Björn Eklund, stated:
“GreenCarrier is in expansion mode and we felt Niklas was the right person to take over the reins of the parent company at this time. Our network is growing and will continue to do so. Inevitably, this requires more management effort to be devoted to the coordination of this development.”

The GreenCarrier team is also being strengthened at a senior level by the addition of Ulf Sundberg, who was formerly Managing Director of Kuehne + Nagel Sweden. He has considerable managerial experience with large forwarding organisations and will assist Mr Olsson as COO, Chief Operating Officer.

Staffan Kjellberg, who was previously Managing Director of GreenCarrier International, remains with the group and will work on overall business strategies and the development of new concepts for the Björk.Eklund Group.

Mr Eklund explained that in taking on this role, Mr Kjellberg will be doing exactly what he was originally recruited to do:
“When we invited Staffan to join GreenCarrier International, we were looking for someone to support the senior management in planning the way forward. While he has done this admirably, we also asked him to take on the position of Managing Director and inevitably this reduced the amount of time and energy he was able to devote to conceptual planning.

“By reducing his managerial responsibilities, he now has much more time available to spend on progressing the new ideas we have for the future of the company.”
