GreenCarrier Sweden makes Business Travels Climate Neutral

During 2008, GreenCarrier Sweden has measured and compensated for the total amount of emitted fossil carbon dioxide (CO2) caused by the companies business trips within the Nordic countries. Thereby GreenCarrier has reached their goal of climate neutral business trips.

Since 2006 GreenCarrier has been certified according to ISO 14001, which is a Swedish environmental management system that helps companies systemize their environmental work. It specifies, among other things, that companies should have goals for constant improvement within certain environment areas. One of GreenCarrier’s goals concerns the company’s business travels.

During 2008 GreenCarrier has registered all business trips within the Nordic countries. The system measures the amount of travels per transport type, the amount of emitted fossil CO2 and the average amount of emitted CO2 per person per kilometer. In addition to measuring the pollution GreenCarrier has decided to compensate for emitted fossil CO2. This way, GreenCarrier has reached the goal of climate neutral business travelling within GreenCarrier Sweden.

Patrik Andreasson, Environment Manager at GreenCarrier, says:
- When we summed up
2008 our travelling had emitted 53 024 kilos of fossil CO2. We have funded the offsetting of an equal amount of carbon dioxide via a Tricorona.

Tricorona is the company with the highest ranking on the Swedish Energy Agencies list of accepted companies for climate compensation. Their offsetting occurs through renewable energy projects under the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol. All Tricorona projects are carefully selected according to rigorous sustainability criteria.

100 % Clean Company Vehicles
Recently GreenCarrier Sweden also reached their goal of 100 % clean vehicles among the company cars, which has been the goal since the beginning of 2006.

- We are also trying out an alcohol lock in one of our cars, and if the trial works out well we will add this as a requirement for our company cars in the future, says Patrik Andreasson.

GreenCarrier has 88% satisfied or very satisfied customers, and according to a major part of these GreenCarrier’s commitment to environment issues is an important factor.

FCS Logistics is renamed GreenCarrier Finland

The IATA approved Finnish forwarding company Oy FCS Logistics Ltd has been renamed GreenCarrier Finland Oy, with effect from 23 February, 2009.

All contact details will be unchanged with the exception of e-mail addresses, which will adopt the style firstname.familyname@greencarrier.com. The company's new website address will be www.greencarrier.com.

FCS Logistics was acquired by the Gothenburg-headquartered logistics specialist GreenCarrier International in June 2008 as part of its strategy to strengthen its position in the Nordic region. Founded in 1995, FCS offers international air and sea container transport services and as an IATA approved forwarder, the company has contracts with major airlines around the world. It also offers charter transport and on-board courier services.

GreenCarrier Finland prides itself on the handling of higher value and time-sensitive goods. Direct routeings are selected whenever possible and for particularly urgent shipments  such as ships' spares, medical equipment and medicines, it closely monitors individual movements to ensure they are loaded on board and sent as scheduled.

A particular speciality is the transport of livestock including pets, horses, cattle and poultry. Pick-up and delivery, kennels, quarantine, veterinarians and flight reservations can be organised with a special emphasis on airlines and schedules that are best for the well-being of the animals.

Staffan Kjellberg, Managing Director, GreenCarrier International, said:

"It had always been our intention to integrate FCS Logistics into our mainstream activities. Like other GreenCarrier offices, GreenCarrier Finland is strong in certain niches and will play an important role in our development along the Baltic coastline and into Russia.

"As Green Carrier Finland, the company will expand the range of services it offers its customer base, for example by taking full advantage of our strengths in the Asian market. In countries such as China, the Nordic and Baltic regions are regarded as one market and we are now strong in the Nordic countries and expanding rapidly in the Baltic states."

GreenCarrier offers its customers a single point of contact for all their logistics requirements. With offices in Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus, Ukraine and Asia, GreenCarrier specialises in shipping services between northern Europe and the Far East.

GreenCarrier International is part of the Björk.Eklund Group, one of Sweden's largest privately owned logistics and transportation companies.
