Emergency Surcharge (EMS) for the Gulf of Aden

The current problem of modern-day piracy poses a dangerous threat to shipping. The risk is concentrated in several geographical areas centered among others in the Gulf of Aden.

Carriers are now faced with increased insurance premiums and accessorial costs in order to ensure substantial security levels. Therefore we have to implement a global Emergency Surcharge (EMS) of USD 25 /TEU.

The EMS is applicable for all cargo transiting the Gulf of Aden and the Suez Canal irrespective of its origin or destination as from January 13th 2009.

Please contact your local GreenCarrier office if you have further questions.
