GreenCarrier Acquires Finnish Forwarder Oy FCS Logistics

GreenCarrier International, the logistics arm of the Gothenburg-based Björk.Eklund Group, has further strengthened its position in the Nordic region with the acquisition of the independent IATA approved Finnish forwarding company Oy FCS Logistics Ltd.

Founded in 1995, Oy FCS offers international air and sea container transport services and has a global agent network. As an IATA approved Forwarder, FCS Logistics has contracts with all major airlines around the world and also offers charter transport and on-board couriers.

The company prides itself on the handling of higher value and time-sensitive goods. Direct routeings are selected whenever possible and for particularly urgent shipments  such as ships’ spares, medical equipment and medicines, FCS closely monitors individual movements to ensure they are loaded on board and sent as scheduled.

A particular speciality is the transport of livestock including pets, horses, cattle and poultry. Pick-up and delivery, kennels, quarantine, veterinarians and flight reservations can be organised with a special emphasis on airlines and schedules that are best for the well-being of the animals.

It is anticipated that the FCS Logistics operation will eventually be fully integrated into GreenCarrier International.

Staffan Kjellberg, Managing Director, GreenCarrier International, said: “FCS Logistics will be our foothold in the Finnish market for expansion. The owners of FCS Logistics have the same business philosophy as we have. Like other GreenCarrier offices the company is also strong in certain niches. FCS Logistics will play an important role in the GreenCarrier group of companies along the Baltic seafront and the Russian border.”

GreenCarrier offers its customers a single point of contact for all their logistics requirements. With offices in Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Lithuania and Asia, GreenCarrier specialises in shipping services between northern Europe and the Far East.

The Björk.Eklund Group is one of Sweden’s largest privately owned logistics and transportation companies.

GreenCarrier Asia appoints Peter Chu as Managing Director

Logistics specialist GreenCarrier Asia, part of the Björk.Eklund Group, has appointed Peter Chu as Managing Director. Mr Chu will take on the task of developing GreenCarrier’s operations in Greater China.

For much of his career Mr Chu has been involved with the Sweden-China trade and has considerable knowledge of both the Swedish market and its corporate culture. Formerly with Wilson Freight, he fulfilled roles as Sea Freight Manager, Assistant General Manager, Director and Deputy Managing Director before becoming Managing Director of TNT Freight Management. In 2006 he joined Baltrans Logistics HK Ltd as Managing Director of its North China operations, where he was also accountable for Hong Kong and Greater China exports to Sweden. His experience encompasses air freight as well as ocean freight and door-to-door logistics.

Commenting on the appointment, Staffan Kjellberg, Managing Director, GreenCarrier International, said:
“With almost 40 years’ experience of the shipping and freight forwarding business, Peter will be a considerable asset to GreenCarrier both in China and internationally. His name is well known in the Asia – Europe trades and he has many contacts amongst the shipper fraternity and elsewhere. We are very happy that he has decided to join us.”

Mr Chu stated:
“One of my first priorities is to consolidate our Hong Kong business base and our next step will be to open up more branches in China, where I hope to see at least two new offices within a year and even more in the future. "

“GreenCarrier has excellent ambitions and a long-term commitment here. There is enormous potential for such a tight, well-run company that is focused on Scandinavia and the Baltic region. This will be a firm platform from which we can advance GreenCarrier’s business.”

GreenCarrier has nine offices in Sweden - Gothenburg, Helsingborg, Karlstad, Linköping, Stockholm, Skellefteå, Luleå, Sundsvall and Örebro – plus two in the Norwegian capital Oslo. In addition, it has developed rapidly in the Baltic States, most recently opening offices in Tallinn, Estonia and Klaipeda, Lithuania. The company expanded into China in 2006, initially opening offices in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
